We’re pet people, just like you
And we have been for a long time. Longer than Trusty, even.
It started on a Derby market stall in 1958, where the foundations of what would eventually become Trusty were quietly being laid.
Forty years of retail, a family grown around a shared love of hard work and looking after people, and eventually a big idea that needed a proper home. In 1999, that home became Trusty.
We started out delivering pet food door to door, by van, to the people and pets of Derby. In 2006, we took over a little pet shop in Mickleover and opened our very first store.
It was a small place with a big idea. That pets are family, and family deserves proper care, proper choice, and a little bit of spoiling along the way.
Children would come in holding their parents’ hands, with the family dog proudly leading the way. We’d watch them grow taller, then taller still, until one day they were the ones holding the lead.
And that’s the part we’ve always loved. Being there at the beginning, the middle, and all the little in-between moments that make up a life with pets.
Today, we’re a third generation family business, and the fourth generation is already in the building (albeit currently more interested in the treats than the admin).
In 2024, we were named National Pet Shop of the Year. But honestly, that’s not the part we’re proudest of…
That would be the customers who’ve been with us since the beginning, the new ones joining the family every single day, the pets who’ve grown old alongside us and the fact that after all this time, it still feels like exactly what it was always meant to be.
